Dear friends, colleagues, and supporters, the 2010 midterm elections are over and although the results were far different from what was hoped for, it’s time to move forward. Mere words cannot express the gratitude and affection that’s felt for all of you. During this long campaign, you all gave freely of your time, treasure, and talent and battled hard to maintain your democracy. During hard times, you encouraged. Through periods of financial uncertainty, you came through with support. When called upon to gather for special events, you found a way. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to be your candidate. From the bottom of my heart and from the deepest well of my spirit I and the Fred Johnson for Congress team say “Thank You!” for all of your friendship, care, and encouragement. None of that which was accomplished could have been done without you, and we were honored to work alongside the courageous Democrats of Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District.
Michigan families are hurting. They need real solutions to real problems, not overheated campaign rhetoric. I have always prided myself on my ability to work across the aisle, and I will continue to do so in Washington. However, I will not compromise on finding real solutions that work. I believe that the many of the radical ideas of the Tea Party are a danger to our democratic society, and I will fight them at every turn. Michigan families simply cannot afford to have a Congressman who is distracted by these fringe ideas. I will focus like a laser on jobs and the economy, and fight to bring economic prosperity back to West Michigan. My time in the U.S. Marine Corps taught me that perseverance is the key to success, and I will bring that spirit, and work ethic, to Washington.
